The Alikhani Square Case: Two Executed, Ten More at Risk

These names belong to one case in Isfahan: the “Alikhani Square” case that followed the protests of 8 January 2026. Mizan, the judiciary-affiliated news agency, announced the executions of Erfan Esfandiari and Gol-Mohammad Mohammadi on the morning of 19 July 2026. Iran Human Rights verified that the executions took place at Isfahan Central Prison, also known as Dastgerd Prison.

Ten others in the same case remain at risk: Alireza Sepahi, Abolfazl Sepahi, Ghaem Hosseini, Shervin Bagherian, Amirhossein Safari, Amirhossein Maleki, Ali Dashti, Abolfazl Ebrahimi, Alireza Raisi, and Amirhossein Ebrahimi Analoujeh.

Human-rights organizations have documented serious concerns about the proceedings. Iran Human Rights says many defendants were tried from inside prison by telephone or video link without a lawyer present. Kurdpa reports that proceedings involving 59 detainees were completed rapidly and that some of the twelve received multiple death sentences.

Sources do not always agree on ages or even the rendering of certain names. HumanInChain therefore records the reported birth years and preserves the “Amirhossein/Hossein Safari” and “Ali/Alireza Dashti” discrepancies. Sources also conflict on whether Shervin Bagherian’s sentence had received final Supreme Court confirmation.
